I was looking forward to this retreat. I knew it would be good. But it was a hundred times more than “good!” The world has shifted for me in some way. The notions of responding versus reacting; of the loving power of meditation; of vulnerability and courage walking hand in hand; of daring to step into the arena ... is all beginning to make profound sense to me. …Thank you, Maggie, for all the hours of dedication you have given to bringing yourself to this point in your life when you are able to give such transformative gifts to others. I am quite literally filled to the brim with gratitude at this time, a major crossroad in my life.
— Ros Hart, Daring Way Retreat participant, 2019

Join us this Spring for the inaugural six-day Brene Brown Rising Strong Workshop and Retreat at in the beautiful Gariwerd (Grampians) National Park in Victoria. This offering combines Brown’s Rising Strong workshop curriculum (different but complementary to The Daring Way), together with daily yoga, mindfulness meditation, guided relaxation and deep rest, afternoon hikes in the stunning National Park, periods of silence, and delicious food and sharing around the table.

We will commence with a Welcome to Country smoking ceremony in the tranquil paddocks surrounding this beautifully designed property, set on 50-acres with bush and mountain views and typically dotted with lazy mobs of emus and kangaroos. We will greet each morning with a gentle outdoor yoga/movement session, then hot breakfast, morning workshop, lunch, guided deep rest and relaxation session, and a hike in the nearby mountains, followed by a pre-dinner chai or aperitif around the outdoor fire-pit. In the 5-night/6-day format, there is more time to really integrate the experiential learning that Brene is passionate about and which “fits” so closely with all the understandings from the world of mindfulness. In this way, we move from theory to actually taking up and integrating practices that really make a difference to the quality of our lives and relationships.

Rising Strong is about exploring – and potentially re-writing – the stories that we live by, often largely out of our conscious awareness. At its core is emotional intelligence, including specific strategies and steps for grappling with challenges and picking ourselves up again when we experience the inevitable losses, set-backs, failures, or cross-roads that are bound to occur when we truly dare to live and love wholeheartedly.

In my own life as a partner, mother of three daughters, Couples Therapist, and mindfulness practitioner and teacher, I have found Brene’s work to strike a deep chord especially in helping to understand and work more constructively with the fears that can keep us playing life safe, but small. I love her books and TED talks however I agree with Brene herself that, like mindfulness, it is only when the theory becomes integrated into our daily lives in practical ways, that it has the power to transform.
