Mindful Self Compassion Intensive Retreat

 

This Mindful Self Compassion (MSC) intensive retreat is designed to cultivate the skill of self-compassion.  Based on the groundbreaking research of Kristin Neff and the clinical expertise of Christopher Germer, MSC teaches core principles and practices that enable participants to respond to difficult moments and experience with more kindness, care and understanding.

While kindness and compassion are considered an integral part of mindfulness practice, many of us overlook it because we don’t know how to actually practice it!  While we can be kind to others, we struggle to extend this to our own selves, and instead accidentally “practice” self-talk & thinking patterns that can feel harsh, critical, shaming or ruminative, especially if we are going through difficult times.  Unlike self-esteem, self-compassion supports & connects us, no matter where we are in comparison to others, or how hard we might fall.  For those of us who are health professionals or teachers, including our own selves in our compassion practice has also been shown to protect from fatigue and burn out.

This training will include theory and practices for cultivating compassion.  Recent research demonstrates that self-compassion is strongly associated with emotional wellbeing, less anxiety, depression and stress, maintenance of healthy habits such as diet and exercise, and satisfying personal relationships. The course is ideal for people who have completed the Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Program, or have some other mindfulness practice experience, but is also suitable for beginners.

In the intensive retreat version there is the opportunity for silent periods as well as times for meditation, journalling, resting and walking in the beautiful bush setting of Hepburn Springs.

Gorgeous accommodation in a beautifully refurbished 1920s Continental Guesthouse, perched high in the bushland of Hepburn Springs, and just across the road from the Goldfields Walking Trail, with log fires, in-house massage, & a Turkish Haman Steam-room, making this the perfect winter location. 

All delicious vegetarian meals provided excluding one lunch to give the opportunity to explore the local area.
